NDS sees quarterly profits rise 35%  
 
 
NDS, the pay-TV solution arm of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, has posted a profit of $16.59m for the three months to the end of March, up 35% on the year-ago quarter. Turnover rose by 29% to $126.59m.  
 
In the three months a further 2.9m set-top boxes deploying NDS' conditional access technology were added to its customer base, taking its global total to 54.7m.  
 
NDS said Sweden's Modern Times Group had selected NDS' XTV personal video recorder (PVR) solution for its Viasat digital satellite pay-TV operation in the Nordic region.  
 
NDS chief executive Abe Peled said: "The business continues to grow on all fronts. This quarter we announced the launch of our PVR platform on Foxtel in Australia, our sixth PVR customer as well as an extension to our conditional access contract with SkyLife in Korea.  
 
"In addition, our conditional access customer, Viasat, has now chosen to take our PVR technology and we believe that this strengthens our relationship with them.  
 
"We continue to develop our technology with exciting new security solutions for mobile operators and mobile TV broadcasting."
