Eight-Year-Old 'Is Serial Robber'
Sep 26th, 2008, 3:07pm

A little boy, dubbed the Artful Dodger, is believed to be responsible for a string of cash robberies totalling more than £1,000.

The youngster, who is thought to be just eight years old, was caught on CCTV in four separate incidents in Hull. In each he is seen taking cash or products from shops while other people distract the staff in the Fagin-style thefts.

Police said he took £900 from a cash register in one shop and £400 in a money bag from a restaurant. He also tried taking a tin containing £150 from a petrol station.

On each occasion, accomplices distracted shop staff while the boy committed the offence. The youngster is under the age of criminal intent, which is 10, but police want to identify the other individuals involved in the crimes.

Det Sgt John Fuller described him as "Hull's version of the Artful Dodger".
"He's stolen £900 from a cash register at a baby equipment store, taken a money bag with £400 from a restaurant and swiped £350 of mobile phones from a shop," he said.

Detectives believe they have now identified the boy after releasing CCTV footage to a local paper.
