Premiere has announced it will launch three programs with sport, film and documenteries starting 1 November 2005 from ASTRA in a hi-def format. There are also plans to show the 2006 world football championship in HDTV.

Humax said Tuesday that it is developing a premiere-suitable HDTV-Receiver. The receiver is to receive HDTV transmissions and manufacturer data both in MPEG4- and MPEG2-coding. Premiere wants the use MPEG4-compression, in order to use transponder bandwidth better. Premiere said the video standard MPEG-4 AVC (Advanced video Coding, also H.264/AVC or MPEG-4 part 10 mentioned) will be used.

The Humax receiver is to be sold starting from the fourth quarter 2005 at a price not specified yet.
