Where to buy 2.4m or larger dish?
Jan 24th, 2005, 3:24pm

Been looking to get hold of a 2.4m petalised dish or larger, anyone know of any suppliers in the UK or any second hand dishes around?

Send paul (sponsor) a  pm he might be able 2 sort you something out.

Is there any way of pole mounting the dish?

Mattk I am sure you would be able to make an adaptor to
pole mount. My 2m Precision dish was designed to go on a 3.5
inch pole but I retrofitted it onto my old 1.8m Irte ground
stand whic is 4.5 inch.Problem with big solid dishes in the wrong location is wind loading forcing them to twist.
It may be worth getting an American C band Polar mount
or A-z mount and fitting it to your new dish.
Mine runs on a machined car bottom ball joint as the original
plastic joint was very poor..

I bet your neighbours love you Grin.
I would love to have something bigger, satellite dish i'am on about Wink.
Currently have a Televes 1.1 mtr on the side off the house but i'am thinking of swapping it for a triax 1.1mtr.
Would love to put up a 1.2 or 1.3 but dont think it would be safe, even though the pole and brackets are new.
Whats the biggest dish peps would recommend mounting on a house wall ?
Bikefan give us a clue what you can get with your dish which a normal dish (1.1mtr, 1.2mtr) could'nt get.

Cheers

I used 2 have a 1.2 channel master on the wall,no problems.
It was on a 3inch pole with 3 brackets.

Well seeing as I live in the middle of nowhere I don't have to worry about neighbours just the national park authority/planning getting annoyed, not allowed dishes on the house so all pole mounted in the garden. At the mo I have 4 dishes, 1.3m, 1 metre an 80 and a sky zone 2 dish! Have sprayed up the larger dishes black so as to draw less attention to them. 2.4m is awaiting delivery from our excellent site sponsors so looking forward to adding to the dish farm lol! Was thinking about putting the letters SETI on the 2.4 for a laugh  Grin

Sorry Keano,I can`t help as I started on a !.2m dish in the
days before Ruperts S*y then had a 1.6m John Levick,!.8m
Petal Irte which had a pressing appointment with our compost heap which bent the reflector. My father had put
another one in front not realising the dish rotated so far.
Made a roller block to straighten the side but it had too
many side lobes after that. Then bought  a scond hand
2m Precision less pole but with damaged polar mount.Luckily
I was self employed then with a lathe so was able to machine
adaptor plates as regd.Dish has about 6 small dents but
works well.I really like the spun reflectors.
The best example was in the days of D2mac and I could
receive Canal Plus Gul but I also had a depolariser and
triple band (quad band lnb)using a magnetic polarotor and
Swedish Microwave depolariser.Worked really well,far
better than my retrofitted Universal lnb on C120 feed.

Try and find yourself a 90 cm Gregorian dish.. IMHO they are the best sub1.1m dish ever produced..
