Broadband
Jul 3rd, 2003, 11:27pm

Hi all

I am totally pi$$ed off with my broadband (wireless) provider, the service is up and down and the call out is 48 - 72 hours! (Glad I got that off my chest) oh, and did I mention it costs 47 a month too.

I cannot get cable due to living on a shared drive, my exchange is ADSL enabled but I get the message that I live too far away from the excahnge for ADSL.

Does anyone have any other options that I can try or is there a way of getting BT to do something about coverage in my area? I know about the trigger pints but that only seems to apply to the excahnges that are not yet ADSL enabled? There is mention on the BT site that they will be able to go longer distances in the summer of 2003 (now?) anyone have any further info in this?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Locktight (Currently on a dial up connection whilst the tossers sort out the other one!)

undecidedSorry I can't help you mate, but I know exactly how you feel.
The chance of me ever getting broadband is No Chance.
They tell you 250(300 in my area?) have to show an interest before they look at the possibility of getting Broadband......my area at the last count 17......checked a month before that count 17. I also am totally pissed off. Your location should not matter when you pay the same phone chanrges as everybody else.....and you also pay a fortune for the same bit of platinum cable run which comes in your house.
I also reckon their adverts are illegal, because it's not available for everybody, so it's telling porky's.
You can get it, if you are willing to pay silly money, but how many of us are so well off.
I reckon also it's a fiddle if your paying full whack on a shared basis.
Don't believe their call out.....it's a load of crap also...you can get a 4 hour check if you break down, and they will give you an emergency mobile, and deliver it for 10 extra PLUS VAT a month......what they don't tell you is you have to be at deaths door before they action this.
It was nice for a while when BT had some competition, but they soon put the hammer on that when money was involved.
O.K., off my soapbox.....Smiley

Totally agree with the previous comments. When I applied to BT, I was told- a) Only 50 people had expressed an interested, and b) If the exchange had been activated, I still would not have been provided because. Wait for it - ' Although I was only 1 Km from the exchange, My cable connection went around the village first making the line length to the exchange over the limit of 3.5 Km'. Bring on some competition I say

isn't there something called OFTEL that is supposed to stop things like this happening ?
or am i very naive ?
one of the few benefits of living in a big city is we don't have any trouble with BT, except having to pay their rip off prices

It gets better

I called them today, it appears they "Stopped" taking the monthly payment from my account in January!

I had to call their accounts dept. this afternoon (they were meant to call me) they did apologise and credited me three months of the payments as they said it was mostly their error.

SO I paid the other 2 months on my plastic, they said the service would be back on in 20 mins, I get home at 8.15 this evening and its still bloody blocked.

I call the support number, get some spotty little twat who tells me that he cannot do anything as he doesn''t know how to unblock it, he is the only person there and that I should call back on Monday after 9am.

I tell you, the person whos name I have to complain to is going to be very pissed off on monday after I have finished with them.

@blue604
to show BT more interested people in your area,
put in any ( and many )phone numbers from the phone book of your area, with a couple of m8`s also interested
to help you out,it won`t take too long to reach the 300 people needed to get BT to take notice.

Not that I would condone anyone doing this you understand, but there are sites on the net that do "Mail Bombs" have a look into it and use the 200 or so MSN/Yahoo addresses on there for your registrations with BT.
