Unfortunately still not having look with JTAG/i2c. The msi file is the correct one for BBS so that isn't the problem. I managed to find somewhat of a chip diagram (_http://www.2shared.com/document/nkt6a6wF/BCM7335_EJTAG.html).
After looking at this it took me to somewhere else on the board for the i2c port but still the same result. When the cypress board is connected the box fails to boot properly but nothing past that.

I still think its possible to connect to the box but i'm wondering if the chip is somewhat 'password protected' What I mean by that is you would need to use a key sequence or command to connect. Again no luck with this either so far.

If anyone has any other ideas on this let me know what you think

Has anyone got a working link for the drx890 chip?

So thinking about this, the box must check for firmware updates

It could be possible to redirect that request to a server under our control and get it to download a previous firmware or modified one, or am I covering things that have already been tried?

I don't have a now TV box so don't really know that much about them

Happy to facilitate via here if there is interest

I could do that but as Sky owns a percentage of Roku I would get an Amazon Firestick.

I just hate that thousands of people have been left in the lurch by this.

Hey Steve et al

We have another project for you and it is likely to be big so I think a new section may be required.

I do not know if you have heard, but those sneaky guys at Sly have done it AGAIN.

This time it is on the NowTV box, a 5 (white) to 15 (black) product based on the Roku LT.  It is a beermat sized puck device.

It has always supported the Developer mode of Roku and this was how many 3rd party apps got loaded.

Sly sneaked out a firmware update that blocked this, they have also blocked all discussion on this, any discussion is moved and put to elevated security required.

What we need are some bright minds to pick up an old NowTV box, rip out the old firmware and develop a means to roll it back while blocking new firmware updates.

This update was done to block apps like Kodi but it also blocks a plethora of other Apps like Plex.

Sly own a share of Roku so they have forced this through.

I hope that this community of bright minds will get involved and get some use of these now "bricked" devices.

eBay would be a good source or anyone with old NowTV stock that has not been updated.

Thanks in advance!

I have at least 3 of these old Sly boxes, ready for Freecycle or eBay if anyone might pay for them.  I also have a handful of viewing card.

I used to upgrade the hard disks on these units, even added longer cables so I could swap hard disks without opening up box.

However, I moved on from Sly and these boxes some years ago and I found a way to still stick it to Sly!

The platform I moved to was Plex.tv and I sideloaded it onto a NowTV box that I got on eBay for 5

This is a quick demo of what Plex is

https://youtu.be/wKSPX7QRMTk?t=178

Plex has a SERVER and CLIENT, the server can be a cheapish PC, cheapest I have seen is around 140 on eBay, a low end 4 core cpu based reconditioned but new looking PC.  I funded this by dumping live TV so did not need TV Licence and have saved about 7k since in Sly and BBC fees.

The Plex client can be anything from your mobile, an Ipad, your browser, an Amazon firestick or a Roku puck sized device (NowTV is a cut down Roku limited to 720HD).

The upside is that you never need to copy analogue content in real time from your Sky box to a DVR or PVR.

The most cool facility of Plex is that you can stream your content to your mobile (if your broadband upload is fast enough) and even share access to your Plex with other friends on Plex.

If you want to get into it then this guy has quite a good tutorial

https://danielgibbs.co.uk/2015/12/plex-on-nowtv/

Now you could just scrap your TV Licence and get Netflix for less than half what you are paying, but series come and go depending on their license with the studio.

With Plex you have your collection of movies, series and even music.

Feel free to ask me if you have any queries.

Now can I be bothered to put those Sky Plus boxes on eBay!!

I bought a pre-patched model from ebay last year, seller has obviously disappeared off the face of the earth now but as of 1st Jan the recording has stopped working, can still play back but not record or use Tuner 2...
I don't have the black skin just the default blue one (I don't really mind in all honesty!)
I want to re-flash to see if it works but I really don't know where to begin, I have been through this thread and tried to look at how to do it but can't gather enough information from the photos and instructions provided... Are there any videos on how to do it (or if anyone has pulled it off can they perhaps advise please?) I have a Pace 3100 (in fact, I have 2, one not flashed at all and one already flashed), whats interesting, I put in a subscribed card and got the premium channels on the flashed firmware but it made no difference to the behavior of the box! (Wouldn't record, pause etc.) I know without pairing it would at least attempt then fail but it seems to ignore the Record keystrokes.
Another point I haven't seen here also is the ability to set a reminder also does not work...

Many Thanks for your help in advance

Interesting a few posts back that original software was flashed back into a patched box and tuner 2 started working again ---- no recording of course.
So the tuner isn't permanently disabled.
All good fun ---

Interesting observations there Oscar. Mystified as to how sly managed to disable the 2nd tuner on patched boxes only. It would seem that they have the ability to distinguish between originals and patched ones.. How they do it is another question..

Hello all ,
At my local tip a couple of days ago and rescued 2 Pace 3100 boxes just as a guy was about to dump them.
He said one had just stopped recording and the other was a spare.
At home --- one had the back panel missing.
Ok this is what I found --- one original , one patched.
Original --- connect lnb to input 2 only = no signal strength on input 2
connect lnb to input 1 only = signal strength on input 1 and music.
connect lnb to input 1 and 2 = signal strength on inputs 1 and 2.
Patched.... same as above but never any signal on input 2.
Conclusion ... Input 2 is only seen after input 1 has received information .??

I could be totally wrong of course ---- bit of fun and a learning curve in the early days .
There is another possibility of course ----- whoever did the original patch built in a cut off date of 31/12/2016 .... anyone able to disassemble the file line by line ??
Someone did to produce the "original colours" file ---
Have fun --- 2 boxes due for landfill tomorrow !!
Regards to all

Yes looks like the end of the road with that one.  Angry Good while it lasted.
I have moved on to VUSolo2, and can record all I want so goodbye sly and thanks for nothing.
There are no good reasons (justifiable) as to why sly should be able to restrict their boxes with regard to recording.  Angry

Unfortunately not. I connected the jtag to the board in what I thought was the correct area but didn't get anyting back from urjtag.
I could of messed up the pull up resistor values, got the wrong connection for the RESETb line or just damaged the board when soldering.

Picked up a new DRX890 today so hope to have another try over the weekend.
Either was its good to see some activity in this and the other thread again!
