Title: Ch5 goes FTA on November 18th
Post by Steve on Nov 5th, 2008, 4:24pm

Five is to launch on Freesat later this month, it has been announced.

The terrestrial channel has been notably absent from the service since its launch in May this year due to "rights issues". The broadcaster has now resolved the problems and will launch its flagship service on Freesat on Tuesday, November 18.

Freesat MD Emma Scott described Five, which will join the Freesat EPG on channel 105, as a "fantastic addition" to the service.

Charles Constable, Five's director of strategy, added: "I am delighted that Five will be available to Freesat viewers. Our launch will support three of Five's objectives: to be universally available throughout the UK, to let viewers watch our programmes on the platform of their choice, and to enable as many people as possible to watch Five free of charge."

Launch dates for Five's digital channels Five US and Fiver have yet to be confirmed.

@Cromwell, thanks for the links mate, there seems to be some conflict though, how many channels can you have on the Fortec, one says 2000 and the other says 10,000

10,000 channel memory (7,000 TV, 3,000 radio)

Or we could get the Diablo ?

Title: Re: Ch5 goes FTA on November 18th
Post by haga on Nov 8th, 2008, 8:56pm

I guarentee if we get a diablo it will last a week and there will be a new all singing all dancing cam out and the diablo wont be supporeted any more and we'll be out of pocket again! lol
I have a drawfull of cams that were going to last forever, the dragon has been the best for support by far.
I have to admit I know little about the support for the Diablo and don't know what it gets?

Title: Re: Ch5 goes FTA on November 18th
Post by invalid on Nov 9th, 2008, 9:32am

Diablo cam is the best thing i`ve ever bought, got mine when it first came out,had it updated when conax came out.
Just like owt else steve  it could end tomorrow & then blank tv`s,but this cam is very well supported @ the moment & has been 4 a while now.Not sure but i think this cam is about the only thing that opens conax (thor) @ the moment, could be wrong though.
With prem closing down 2 us i think something else will open & as you say a new cam will appear, but the diablo might just open it,you never know.
I havn`t moved my dish from thor 4 since it`s been open so not 2 sure whats open on this cam @ the moment.
It`s all a risk in this game steve no matter what you buy.

                              H.

Ps Diablo 2.3 cam also needs a cas3  2 program it,so if anyone is thinking of buying these then look 4 places that are doing a package deal on both(cheaper)

Yes it is the best at present, but the last update cost them £25 ?

AND WE CALL IT FREE TV, lol.

Title: Re: Ch5 goes FTA on November 18th
Post by haga on Nov 9th, 2008, 1:42pm

I'm assuming that with the right cam and the Fortec, prem in HD is viewable? any other channels on thor etc that are in HD?

@Cromwell, why was the last update £25??

haga

Title: Re: Ch5 goes FTA on November 18th
Post by cromwell on Nov 9th, 2008, 4:28pm

It was 2.2 and to get 2.3 you had to pay ?  and we all slag sky, but the tell you that they are going to rob you, LOL.

You would get what any box would give you m8.

Title: Re: Ch5 goes FTA on November 18th
Post by invalid on Nov 9th, 2008, 4:32pm

can`t check the HD @ the moment as cam needs updating & my comp which i use 4 updating is out of action.
As 2 the £25 it was 2 upgrade diablo 2.2 cams 2 the new 2.3 cams 2 save folk  forking out the full amount 4 a new cam.The 2.2 cams couldn`t handle conax so they say.

But you will still only get the same m8 but a lot more money ?

Title: Re: Ch5 goes FTA on November 18th

Your right, but at least with the DB 8000 you can connect to a share and get full packages of what ever is in the share, no more cams, just new images for the DB. But I'm seriously looking at the Fortec, was the 2.3 for the diablo not leaked onto the net or was the upgrade only from the cam makers, normally as I say. they appear on various forums for upload.

there`s a list of all hd chans on kingofsat
Code:

Just depends what card/cam etc you have 2 decode them.
i`ve got mine on a fixed dish 28e so i can only get bbc,itv & luxe tv in hd but if it was motorized then i should with a diablo 2.3  be able 2 get all hd on thor(conax) with the correct settings.(as i  can with my humax 2000 with diablo)
Don`t know about other sats as i don`t bother with them, never moved dish off thor after it was open.

Oh well hear goes, it turned up today, instruction book in German!! downloaded the English version from the web site, loaded up and cant find channel 5 (yet) but most others appear to be there. Inserted cam and it recognised that ok, set the diseq 1.2 up and set 28, then went to old Astra at 19 east by manually moving the dish, did a scan and got channels, saved. went to go back to 28 and...........nothing, fcucking dish didn't move, so manually went back to 28 degrees, saved again, then went to 19 degrees again, nothing, fcucking dish didn't move, I can move the dish manually but it wont do it automatically, so gave up, ate tea, swore several times, had a row with the wife, now sitting and sulking.
I'll try again tomorrow when I'm in a better mood.
Always seems to happen to me, nothing is ever easy and straight forward.

Well mine is on a fixed dish but just had a quick look @ the settings 4 motor & it looks straight forward.
Right you`ve gone into menu, installation, antenna setup right, have you gone to positioner setup & set it @ DISEqC 1.2 for your motor then pressed red button 2 save ? Did you then press OK on remote 2 go into the diseqc 1.2 menu & set your motor up there ?
With the looks of it you have 2 setup the east west limits etc before it will work right from what i can make out.
My setup isn`t straight forward 2 get @ steve or i would connect it up 2 my motor dish & check it out properly 4 you m8.
Sorry i can`t be of more help

I've set limits, stored everything, it just refuses to move dish automatically, it's fine if I move it in manual mode, just wondering if it's not compatible with my V-Box, which converts diseq 1.2 to voltage. I'll have a play for the rest of the day, if I get no luck it's going back to Maplins.

I'm really dissapointed with this unit, I had high hopes, the picture quality was good but it would not move the dish no matter what I did, it would move east or west if I did it manually, but after setting it and storing it, no movement.
I called Fortec in the UK only to get a recorded message telling me to send an email, which I did, but I've heard nothing. At £160 I'm not prepared to keep it as a stand alone unit just for Freesat.
Have read through a few forums and it seems there are more faulty units out there than there are good ones.
Called Maplin and they are picking it up Friday and I'm getting a full refund.
I will get another multi sat but rest assured my friends, it wont be a Fortec

As a foot note to the above, I never got a reply from Fortec, which I think is very poor, not even an acknowledgement. Maplins never replied to my emails either, I sent several regarding the refund which I paid by paypal and had to involve them to get my money back, which doesn't say a lot for Maplins.
I'm now waiting for the new Echostar HD which is due late Feb/March.
