Title: Capturing TV
Post by gorth on Apr 2nd, 2005, 10:50pm

Hi m8's,

I've just installed a TV-tuner in my PC. Bundled with it came a sw called XPERT PVR PLUS, which doesn't seem to be a Super product. ;) What's, in your opinion, is the best sw for capturing TV, record and "Time slipping"? An extra plus would be if it can be handled by a remote of my choice.

hi gorth

i have a tuner card in mine and it to has pvr plus i did extensive testing on it 6months ago hope this helps

4000kbps / 720x576 / mpeg2 / highest capture / 25fps

this gave acceptable recordings off the tv and dependant what you need is better than vcd.

i also tried winfast tv choppy sound frame jumping on other settings
video studio 7 grainey picture
power producer grainey on moving cars

in the end i bought a dvd recorder lite-on 5005 / tuner and now i use this to record live tv with its own tuner or vhs/satellite via scart and the picture quality is superb.

if your serious about picture quality you'll be better off with a simular machine.

a couple of the guys here have the one's with built in hdd's and they will no doubt tell you the same.

when i tried before i was told by someone you have to spend in the hundreds for a good video card where as the stand alone recorder does it all in one and brill picture.

hope this helps

regards

Use PVR with a cheap aldi TV card. Have no problem capturing sat films with it and gives a reasonable result on the standard DVD(Pal) setting. Found these frame rates okay.

3950 =90mins
4624 =120mins
3607=150mins
2929=180mins

You have to use the inbuilt editor to cut and multiplex before using Tmpeg Dvd author else it throws up an error.

Hi m8's,

Thanx for your replies. :D I'm sure I can live with the picture quality, but I think the time shifting operation was a bit complicated, compared to the one on my DB. I use that a lot and wanted it on an extra device.

I have downloaded a sw called: BeyondTV. It's an evaluation copy, but it looks pretty good.
