Was I rude ? if I was it was unintentional, I only asked what I presumed to be a basic question.
I will endeavour to go through previous posts, and see how one should act & try to follow the drift of others.

Why is everyone so upset over what I thought was a simple question ....
Where do you get the idea I don't like it here or have broken any rules, chill out a little, you sound a little uptight m8.
Will the forum actually close if on refers to S** as long as one do not slander or refer to breaking it's encryption system, it should be perfectly okay to discuss all other aspects in refering or holding general discussions of the provider.

sounds a bit stroppy to me, and apart from anything else they are not exactly ground breaking rules, as any of the DECENT sites out there will tell you the same, so maybe you should chill out, relax, and have a good look around this forum for a few days and then give an informed oppinion.

Hate to controdict you, but if all the decent sites and forums followed that line of thought we
would still be viewing free to air transmitions, or are the sites that offer the keys and files for viewing not in your oppinion decent places,
Do you at least agree with that.

You will find key`s & files on here if you look, but not in the open forum.
Also no links 2 sites that have key`s or files are allowed 2 be posted in the open forum,we have a place 4 that also.

As all the others members have stated, including Invalid, we are a friendly bunch here and help folks as much as we can, however, because of our hobby evolving the way it has we tend not to mention sly here, we have little interest what Murdoch and his crew do, we look at the wider view, if you want to discuss sly there are other forums dedicated to that subject and you are welcome to join them, sites have been shut down just for talking about sly and we dont want to go that route, had you read the rules properly you wouldn't have posted your first post.
As others have suggested, take your time to read through some of the threads and you will get the general idea of what we are about, if you dont like it, then let invalid know, he just loves to say goodbye to people!

If you can recommend it you must be a member there, I on the other hand avoid sites that are rude and require a payment, however low, if its for a worth charity then thats different.
I shall therefore decline you'r recomendation to join Toecutters, which I believe to be in bad taste on your behalf.

Title: Re: Rules ???

toecutters does not in fact require a payment to access the site.
there is an as yet unspecified area of the site which has payment access, however the old site (love it or hate it) is still available for free

Listen m8, this IS  a very friendly site. As mentioned, if you do not find it to your taste then you are quite free to leave. We all take the time to help others freely.

Please keep your answers polite or you will be warned, then banned.

Post by blue604 on Jun 3rd, 2004, 8:13pm

;DShriver,
I'll point out a few facts, which you may or may not take on board.
Very few boards stay alive when they cross the invisible threshholds; these are usually anything to do with hacking u.k. TV. or getting the HOBBY boards noticed by various prov's because they publish variable numbers.
The boards of all nations in Europe and the middle East, the States and Canada are only tolerated by the prov's simply to keep tabs on the progress of the hobby guys.
To rock the website is so easy and it is best to use the PM's for more advanced information.....the prov's have a duty to their customers to close ALL or ANY website that runs close to that invisible threshhold, and if the sites are driven underground the information you require will be harder to secure.
There are around 5 top satellite boards and believe it or believe it not, this board is one of the top 5.
Welcome anyway mate....enjoy your stay... ;D

Well if you are up on the dreambox and live near Bradford you could always call round here and give me some pointers as I have just got one and would love to know where I can get a satellite settings file for it as I accidently erased all the sat positions that I had manually entered before I got the networking part sorted out.
I have downloaded a settings file from the official site but the Dream Box Edit won't recognise it, so any help on this will be great.

Bill

Title: Re: Rules ???
Post by Shriver on Jun 3rd, 2004, 8:46pm

Do you know the exact name of the file you require, as you are aware there are quite a few files within the root of the dreambox, if you can be more spacific maybe I can be of help to you in locating it.
It took ma around 3 days to get internet access myself, it was not untill I closed down certain firewall applications, that I got it running correctly.

Go here, you should find this site extreamly usefull, for the Dreambox, check out the tips and how to sections, very informative m8,
http://laurals.net
You can get the latest sat setting here:
http://www.dreamboxsettings.tk

Title: Re: Rules ???
Post by bill2000 on Jun 3rd, 2004, 8:53pm

The actual file that i'm looking for is a satellite position file...presumably like the ones I used to d/load to my humax editor which would put all the sat positions and channels etc into the editor and then upload to the box.

Bill

Title: Re: Rules ???
Post by Shriver on Jun 3rd, 2004, 8:55pm

Try the setting here, they are also from pete123 the same guy that does the Humax settings.

Hi Mate, thanks for that,

I just d/loaded pets file, which as you say used to do my Hummy, but when I unzipped it and opened the folder there are about 100 files inside ie;  named boquets etc, which soud right but how do you go about loading that lot to the db with the db edit?

Bill

Title: Re: Rules ???
Post by Shriver on Jun 3rd, 2004, 9:19pm

I know it is a little intimidating at first, best thing for you to do is right click on your desktop and make a new folder call it dreamsetting or whatever, then copy all the unzipped files into the folder.
Now open your editor dreamset 1.47 and click on the yellow folder icon left hand top, then select the folder on your desktop you will seee the only file it shows is 'services' select that file and it will load all the channels and positions into the editor, now just upload to your dreambox.
You may get an error message on your computer after you have uploaded the files to your dreambox using dreamedit v1.47, just ignore it.
For some reason it gives error messages on some images but not on others, but if you check on your dreambox you will find the updates are there error free.

Title: Re: Rules ???
Post by Shriver on Jun 3rd, 2004, 9:48pm

Here's how to configure DreamSet v1.47
1 ... select and load settings
2 ... click tools icon 11th icon from left and fill as follows
Dreambox IP: enter the Dreambox IP here 192.168.?.?
Firmware: Custom
User Name: root
Password: dreambox
Settings Flash Method: Send Reloaded Command
Folder -> Satellites.xml: /shared/tuxbox/
Folder -> Services Bouquets: /var/tuxbox/config/enigma/

Now click the serial icon 10th icon from left and click 'Write'
now just wait for the upload to finish, and thats it.

hello m8 there are a number of us that are mods on toecutters den that think this is our home page including me, we think that because we all know each others first names it is not a cl-icky site it is a broad European site we all try our hardest to help others there may only be 3000+ members in here but most are senior/even webmasters on other great sat boards.

you would be hard pushed to find such an experienced crew any where else on the net regarding PC/sat related questions.

I did see by the last post you made you are starting to realize that this site is somewhat better than you first unimagined

this forum is  backed up every day it is the place for the true beginner as all posts are never deleted and although you may want to ask something and no one but you is on line chances are an answer will be here within the hour

I hope you stay m8 and contribute as much as the rest of us try to do.

BTW welcome to steves m8

Title: Re: Rules ???
Post by Shriver on Jun 4th, 2004, 10:17am

I always believed that he was a good guy but after reading this post on alt.sat.tv heres a copy if you have not read it

"NICE GUY THIS JKF AINT HE ...
1000 "MEMBERS" HAVE BEEN DELETED TODAY AND 2000 MORE WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK. SO IF YOU HAVE'NT DONATED THEN YOU ARE GONE"

he seems to have forgone any decency and placed his greed above everything else, he has a couple of sponsors which should be adequite for the size of forum he's running, but as with the other two forums Satdudez & Toecutters who are gathering momentum in their quest to get subscriptions / donations, he has also jumped on the elusive gravy train, or at least is attempting too.
With this kind of attitude it can only bring disharmony between other sites and forums, as that is where most the files and keys originate from.
Are any of these sites prepared to offer the developers retrebution for the use of any of their work, I guess not as that would defeat their object of collecting as much as possible, they have no intension of parting with any of it once its in their greedy little hands.
If a site or forum can't support itself without begging, then it has no right in being there, thats just my personal opinion, some sites / forums been around for what seems an eternity, and have not requested a penny from any of their patrons, so why cant others follow their lead, instead of trying these get rich quick cons.
As I said previously, this is just my personal view on the matter.

After thought.
I have been a member of the above site, for only a short period of time, but left after the current situation raised it's ugly head.

I used to go by the psudonym of 'Short Sighted' until I had myself some spectacles, but for the past few months I have used the psudonym 'Shriver', you may not have come across me, as I have a tendancy to speak my mind, and I expect many of you will know not many boards like you to do that, even though they state it's okay.  :o
As for the quantity of posts that will vary with what is posted here, I tend only to post if I have something of interest to say, or of course answer a post that is directed towards me, as this one was. I look forward to some healthy disscusions on here,it's refreshing to be able to air ones thoughts and feelings without being threatened by some half witted mod,who has trouble understanding plain english, no offence to any mod on here, unless any of you do actually fall into that categorie.  ;D

@shriver, you sound as though you have a wealth of experience at hand and people like you are always welcome on our forum, we are all here to help and be helped, while we dont always agree with some opinions, we respect that members do have their opinions and dont discourage them from expressing them, like you, we enjoy healthy discussions, you say you speak your mind and thats fine, there is a difference tho between speaking your mind and being rude, all our members are treated as individuals and mates and we all go out of our way to help them all.
I for one wont tolerate rudeness or flaming to any member, no matter what they have said or done, as long as you remember that, you are welcome here and I hope you stay and help out as much as possible.
Enjoy the forums.

Title: Re: Rules ???
Post by Shriver on Jun 5th, 2004, 1:32pm

Everyone should be able to distinguish the differance between being courtious and and being plain disrespectfull.
Maybe I'm missing the point of your post, but do you believe I have been in any way discourtious or as you say 'rude' at any point in this topic ... so far, I'm a little confused as to why you made such remarks.
If it was about the earlier post regarding mods, I have as I suspect many of you have encountered quite a few  individuals ( many are indeed mods, albeit on other boards ) who try and impress others with some of the most illogical responces known to man or beast,as to why they should be banned. It seems many boards forget their roots and how in the start they would go out of their way to help and support members, now they have made a name for themselves they treat members with nothing more than contempt.
Luckily these boards are few and far between, but still thy are out there, doing little for harmony between other sat related sites and forums, instead of looking at them as allies, they treat them as a threat, not a very wise move, as we all rely on other sources for hobby, regardless of who you are,or how big / popular your site may be, and thats a shame.

Title: Re: Rules ???
Post by haga on Jun 5th, 2004, 2:21pm

Mods in name only here, we just check everything is running smoothly, none of the mods on this site are any different to the members and we certainly dont let it go to our heads, if we did we wouldn't be mods for long, steve would see to that!
If you stick around long enough you will soon get the jest of the way we do things and what seems to be out of reach at the moment will become clear (if you get my point)
My point was that yes, you do seem a bit discourtious, for someone that has just joined our forum, rubbing members and mods up the wrong way with some of your remarks and your first post probably wasn't a good way to start, however, with that past heres to a happy and long future with steves-homepage.

Title: Re: Rules ???
Post by Shriver on Jun 5th, 2004, 2:40pm

Thanks for the welcome it is appreciated  :),  but on a more relevant point, would you condone new members to make a somewhat false first post, just to get on the good side of others, would it not make more sence for people to be honest and post what they believe to be relevant to them at the time of posting (within reason of course) I take people how I find them, and hope they do the same, starting off with a nice, sweet. polite post, just to impress or to be accepted by others,  is not in my book a wise move,as one can easily get lulled into a false sence of security, and thats as bad as judging a book by it's cover ...  ;)

P.S. It might be a good idea if you checked your spelling. You aint a sibling of Bri are you? (local joke!)

Shame realy, I think that the gentleman is quite well educated and has a good command of the English Language. What I do not want is any hassle or bad words. Yes! I have opened a can and perchance I am one over the eight. He does appear educated in the world of satellite TV, however, but so are many that use this forum.

Enough is enough.

@ Shiver..... Keep your mouth shut and read our posts for the next week ( do not post!) and you will see that we are friendly and helpfull. If you can't keep your big mouth shut, you know what will transpire....I do not think that you are stupid.......So far, that is the way that you sound.

As regards to your comment about making a flase first post m8, all you need to do is say Hi, my interestest are xxxx.

You did however (or it seems to me as if you did) post with all guns blazing.

There are quite a few people on here who are straight to the point, but you seem to be a little more than that. You seem to want to keep digging the hole.

There are very few rules we have here, and the ones we have are there for a reason. If they are broken then one of the Mods/Admin will step n and take the appropriate action.

Can I suggest that you just calm down on the straight talk and take time out to get to know the people who are here.

I bet youre stay will be a more enjoyable one.  ;D  ;D

I Have kept very quiet on this thread and been following with interest the comments made. I will make one last post on this thread and then lock it as it seems to be leading to poor comments and shades of you know where.

@ Shiver
As other mods have already commented all are welcome at steve's and you have managed to assist at least one member in your short time here which I thank you for.

@all
If any member Old or New post's comments liable to cause arguments to begin then you all know the end result, out comes the Ban Button. We allow you all to hold your own opinions and can air them within reason.
